5 + A DAY

McGregor’s has partnered with 5+ a day – displaying the logo on all seed packets sold with an aim to encourage people to not only grow but harvest and prepare fresh fruit and vegetables, ensuring a healthy helping of fruit and vegetable become a regular part of the kiwi diet. McGregor’s provides annual financial  and bro bono support to the trust.

The 5+ a day charitable trust was formed with an objective to encourage all kiwis to eat and enjoy five or more servings of fresh fruit and vegetables every day for better health, taste and variety.

The 5+ A Day programme has become well respected since launching in 1994 and is one of the most recognized food/health brands in New Zealand today. Awareness of 5+ A Day is high amongst our target audiences of household shoppers at 90% and 93% for children*.

The core activity of the 5+ A Day programme is developing educational resources for educators in early childhood centres, primary and intermediate schools. The resources are curriculum linked for ease of use to promote healthy eating and fruit and vegetables.

FEEDBACK

We have received the resources and the seeds are awesome because our current focus is gardening for life. We have employed a teacher aide dedicated to teach the children how to garden. All the children go to her on a rotation and our gardens are growing fast, the seeds now mean we can have a rolling planting programme and our garden lady was overwhelmed with the generosity. We are also using produce from the garden regularly in our cooking classes so children are learning how to use what they grow in everyday recipes! So thank you once again for all your support! We would be stuck without you.

Things are really good; the kids love the fruit. We have received the new 5+ A Day resources and will plant the seeds for our Matariki celebrations.
